Snow Day
Monday morning, NYC was under a state of emergency.
The city was buried, travel banned, and Central Park had already passed 15 inches of snow.
By 8 a.m., I’d already:
Finished my 7 a.m. workout
Meditated
Sat down at my desk, ready to tackle my newsletter and a noon conference call
Then Winston, my 9-year-old pup, looked at me with that face.
He didn’t need to go out. He’s housetrained.
But we hadn’t walked yesterday, and a thought hit me:
Winston is healthy now, but how many more blizzards will he see?
I moved the call to 3 p.m. and we headed to Central Park.
We found sleds flying down hills, couples walking hand-in-hand, and a little kid who walked up and handed me a tiny heart made out of snow. That simple gesture, in the middle of all that white, stopped me in my tracks.
Winston was in heaven.
So was I.
Standing there, in one of the most beautiful parks in the world that I’m lucky enough to live a few blocks from, I realized: I had almost chosen my newsletter over this.
The call could wait.
The newsletter could wait.
But this moment with Winston? It couldn’t.
As driven as I am about my work in real estate, this storm was a reminder:
Some things are worth rescheduling for.
What’s something you’ve recently protected on your calendar that had nothing to do with work—but meant everything?
